I respect your right to privacy while online.

PuterGeek.Com does not use cookies or any other method (except as listed below) to capture information about your habits online, and I respect your right to browse the internet in complete privacy.

About Cookies:

First off, I like cookies!  In general, I feel that they actually increase your browsing pleasure.

Cookies are not required on PuterGeek.Com to properly view any of the web pages.  Some features of the website do use cookies to make life a little easier.  An example is the PuterGeek.Com Message Board.  If your browser accepts cookies the board will remember your user name and password for you (if you're a registered user) as well as remember what messages you've viewed so when you use the search function, it can tell you exactly what messages you haven't seen yet.

About Forms:

You have to right to visit any web page on PuterGeek.Com without being required to fill out any form.  As I add more forms to PuterGeek.Com I will try to fully disclose what will happen when you fill out the form right on the form's page so I won't have to keep adding to this statement.

If you choose to fill out a form, please be aware of the following;

Help Request:

If you choose to fill out the help request form (aka HelpME), please be aware of the following;

When you press the submit button, all of the information you gave is written to a confirmation page.  This page is shown to you.  Then the information is emailed to the email address you gave on the form.  The information is then sent to helpme@putergeek.com which is a personal email address of Peter Crockett (me, the webmaster, aka The PuterGeek).  The information at that point is no longer stored on the website server.

When I receive the information via email, I will respond to the email address as soon as practicable.  I will, at my choosing, show or read the information to my wife Amy, as well as possibly forward the information on to various people whom I feel may be able to help resolve the issue.  This means that any name or email address may be given out to other people.

I do not SPAM anyone, nor will I allow those I know to SPAM any email address that I may forward.  Unless expressly told in the email sent by you, you agree that the above conditions are acceptable to you.

All helpME email is kept on my personal computer.  I will make every possible effort to insure the security of the information I receive.  In the event of loss or theft, I will not be held responsible for the possible use of any email address that is used improperly.

Website Survey:

You understand that giving information in the survey is voluntary.  When you press the submit button, the information you gave is written to a file on the webserver.

The webserver is not under my control, or on my property.  The webserver is ran by Vservers www.vservers.com and while they attempt to keep the webserver secure, neither they nor I will be held responsible in the event of a breach in security.

After the information is written you are then taken to a confirmation page that shows you what information was collected.  Then the information is emailed to the address given in the survey.

Next the information is sent to webmaster@putergeek.com which is a personal email address for Peter Crockett.  The information is stored on my personal computer.  I will make every possible effort to insure the security of the information I receive.  In the event of loss or theft, I will not be held responsible for the possible use of any email address that is used improperly.

I reserve the right to show this information to whomever I choose to.  No name, or email address will knowingly be given to anyone for any reason whatsoever!

I use this information to gather statistics for use in deciding what direction to take my website in.  You understand that giving me your name, or email address is strictly voluntary.

Subscribe Form:

When you press the submit button on the subscribe form you are taken to a confirmation page, which show all the information gathered.  Then the information is sent to the email address you gave.  At that point the information is sent to webmaster@putergeek.com, which is a personal email address for Peter Crockett.

The information is stored on my personal computer.  I will make every possible effort to insure the security of the information I receive.  In the event of loss or theft, I will not be held responsible for the possible use of any email address that is used improperly.

In order to try to prevent SPAMMING, I then send out a confirmation email to the email address given.  If I receive an email in reply, I then add the email address only (no names) to a list that is kept on the web server.  To the best of my knowledge the web server is completely secure.

From time to time I send out an email newsletter to this list.  I do not sell, rent, loan, or give away this list.  Nor is this list used for any other reason.

On one occasion, an email was sent to the list by me, and the whole list received every other email address on the list.  This is not a common occurrence.  An apology was sent out right away.  I've made great steps to see that this does not happen again, but I make no guarantee.  I simply say that I will act in good faith.

Unsubscribe Form:

If you fill out this form the following will happen when you press the submit button.  You will be taken to a confirmation page that will show you the information gathered.  An email will be sent to the email address given.  An email will be sent to webmaster@putergeek.com which is a personal email address for Peter Crockett.

The information is stored on my personal computer.  I will make every possible effort to insure the security of the information I receive.  In the event of loss or theft, I will not be held responsible for the possible use of any email address that is used improperly.

I will then send one email to the email address given in the form to confirm that I have removed the email address from the list kept on the web server.  At that point, I will no longer send any email to that address, nor will I give out that email address in any way!

Information gathered by the web server:

PuterGeek.Com runs on an Apache webserver.  Certain statistics are gathered when you enter the website.  Your IP address, the web page you came from, what web pages you view while at the PuterGeek.Com website, and the page you go to when you leave the website.

This information is considered normal.  This information is only used to track the number of visitors that come to my site, how often they come, and what pages they look at.

I use this information to decide what web pages to keep, what web pages to delete, and what new content to create.

I do not give out this information in any way!

In Closing:

I personally think that this is a dumb and unnecessary web page.  But since all so-called commercial/professional websites have a privacy statement I felt compelled to write one as well.

The statements made above are true to the best of my knowledge.  The short version is that I have no plans, nor any desire to abuse any information you may give me on this website.

I cannot control what happens when you leave this website.  This includes any links you may choose to follow from this website.
